The Dark Knight Rises pakt uit met posters en banners

We worden tegenwoordig om de oren geslagen met The Dark Knight Rises (2012) promotiemateriaal. In het begin bleef alles er nog vrij sober bij, maar nu krijgen we een resem banners en posters voor onze neus geschoteld dat iedereen wel op de hoogte zal zijn voor de aardverschuiving die deze zomer zal plaatsvinden. Geniet ervan.

Skyfall poster & teaser trailer !

De nieuwe Skyfall (2012) poster is zopas online gezet en het exemplaar is niet meteen een uitschieter qua originaliteit. We krijgen de klassieke gunbarrel te zien, met een ietwat gekrompen Daniel Craig in het midden. Anderzijds siert het de makers dat ze er geen flamboyante overkill poster van hebben gemaakt. Ze hebben het simpel en elegant gehouden en misschien is dat ook een verwijzing naar de toon waarin Sam Mendes de film zal maken. Nu nog wachten op die eerste trailer en de titelsong (Goldfrapp? Adelle ? Radiohead?). Vanaf 26 oktober 2012 verschijnt Skyfall bij ons in de bioscoop.

Update 21/05/2012: De teaser trailer laat zien dat de nieuwe Bond action-packed zal zijn, en alles perfect gekadreerd (met dank aan DoP Roger Deakins). Het is niet de beste teaser trailer die ik dit jaar heb gezien, maar dat wil niets zeggen over de kwaliteit van de nieuwe 007 prent. "Agent Provocateur" Daniel Craig ziet er weer heftig uit. Alles heeft ook een beetje zo'n Dark Knight sfeertje, maar dat was nu eenmaal de film van het decennium (ook al vond The Academy Slumdog Millionaire een betere film...what do they know?!). En waar is Bardem? Of is hij die in het mysterieuze Keyser Söze shot (0:57)?? Ik denk in ieder geval niet dat de film zo slecht zal zijn als Quantum of Solace (2008).

Filmposter clichés deel 1: Through Her Legs

In een vorige post had ik het nog over de kleurcodes in filmposters, nu zou ik het willen hebben over de compositie, want hierover kan je ook een boom opzetten. Net zoals er terugkerende poses zijn bij modellen die op de cover van één of ander mannenblad staan, zijn er ook bepaalde poses en composities die alsmaar terugkeren in filmposters. Zo komen zelfs zo vaak voor dat we er zelfs niet meer bij stil staan. Creativiteit is met andere woorden vaak zoek, maar anderzijds is het ook wel logisch dat filmposters een beetje in herhaling vallen. Er komen immers een slordige 8000 film uit per jaar.

En om dit bericht niet te zwaar te maken zal ik deze opsplitsen in verschillende delen. Laten we misschien beginnen met het meest flagrante, met name de doorheen de benen poster. De meest recente exemplaren zijn Crazy, Stupid Love (2011) en deze van The Sitter (2011). En beide films zetten een lange traditie verder van openstaande vrouwenbenen waardoor we als kijker doorheen kijken. Er is zelfs een mannelijk exemplaar met 3:10 to Yuma (2007) en Freak Dance (2011). Er zijn vast nog wel voorbeelden, we lezen het graag in de commentaren.

De posters kleuren gitzwart

De posters blijven de trend volgen: black is back. Hoe donkerder de affiches hoe beter, zelfs zwart wit als het even kan. Dat is in ieder geval niet anders bij de nieuwe filmposter van The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) van Marc Webb, The Dark Knight Rises (2012) van Christopher Nolan én Prometheus (2012) van Ridley Scott. Twee comics en één science-fiction project waar menig fans al een tijdje naar uitkijken.

Het zal in ieder geval een hete zomer worden, zover is duidelijk. Prometheus, de Alien prequel van Ridley Scott, zal de spits afbijten in de States op 8 juni (bij ons zelfs een week vroeger op 30 mei), nadien is het de beurt aan de Spiderman film op 3 juli (bij ons op 4 juli) en Batman maakt zich klaar voor de ultieme box-office hit op 20 juli (bij ons op 25 juli). Het is zonneklaar dat alle andere films die hun releasedatum krijgen tussen dit blockbuster geweld, zo goed als ten dode zijn opgeschreven.

Filmposters van Madison County, Hobo with a Shotgun en Father's Day

Met Halloween komen vaak interessante horrorfilms in de aandacht. Gisteren had ik het nog over The Innkeepers (2011), en hier is dan Madison County (2011) van Eric England, een verrassende exploitation prent die de aandacht trekt met zijn 70'ties poster en in de lijn licht van de recente 'exploitation'-rage. Zeker niet verwarren met The Bridges of Madison County (1995), want dit is dan weer een film met meer diepgang en emotie. In deze Madison County werden de bruggen vervangen door mensonterende terreur.

Korte inhoud: Een groep studenten reist naar een klein bergstadje genaamd Madison County. Ze gaan de schrijver interviewen van een boek over een aantal moorden die daar gepleegd zijn. Wanneer ze aankomen blijkt de schrijver nergens te vinden, en de lokale bevolking doet alsof ze hem al jaren niet meer gezien hebben. Ze vertellen ook dat de moordenaar nooit bestaan heeft en de moorden nooit zijn gepleegd. Echter, wanneer de studenten zelf op onderzoek uit gaan komen ze er achter dat de verhalen meer werkelijkheid bevatten dan de bewoners laten uitschijnen.

De film zou gemaakt zijn met een productiebudget van 70'000 dollar, maar daar hecht ik zelf niet al teveel geloof aan. 70'000 is misschien wel het maximum budget van een Troma film, maar bij het zien van deze trailer en het personeel die aan deze film heeft gewerkt, heb ik de indruk dat alles toch iets meer heeft gekost. Natuurlijk, als je alles gratis krijgt, en de crew voor nougabollen wil werken, dan kom je er wel - maar wat is dan nog de waarde. Een tweede Monsters (2010) (waar de regisseur ook de cameraman was, de producer en de speciale effecten supervisor) zal het wel niet zijn.

Deze exploitation prent is waarschijnlijk nauwelijks het bekijken waard, maar de film heeft blijkbaar indruk gemaakt in een lokale bioscoop in de States waar hij vertoond werd. We weet komt deze prent ooit nog wel naar ons land voor een projectie in een obscuur underground zaaltje, maar los van het internet zie ik niet hoe wij deze film anders te zien zullen krijgen. De poster deed me meteen ook wat denken aan de poster van de vendetta-film Hobo with a Shotgun (2011). In deze prent speelt Rutger Hauer een dakloze die het wil opnemen tegen de regerende criminaliteit in de stad, gaande van gewapende overvallers, corrupte agenten, misbruikte prostituees tot zelfs een pedofiele kerstman. Zijn wapen om de orde te herstellen is een shotgun.

En er was ook nog een andere exploitation prent dit jaar van Troma, genaamd Father's Day (2011), een groteske cocktail van horror en komedie. In de film wordt de terreur georkestreerd door Chris Fuchman (Mackenzie Murdock), een psychopaat, die verzot is op verkrachtingen en moordpartijen, en dan bij voorkeur de moord van vaders. Ahab's vader was één van zijn slachtoffers. Nu is Ahab (Adam Brooks) op zoek naar wraak en belooft zichzelf om een gewelddadig, pijnlijk en bloedig einde te maken aan het leven van de gek die zijn vader vermoord heeft. Het beste aan de film was de trailer, maar die hard fans van Troma pulp zullen hier wel plezier aan beleven.

Lachen met filmposters

Met een poster kan je al heel wat vertellen over een film. Het begint al bij de kleuren, waar je meteen het genre film in herkent. Een goede poster moet op de eerste plaats onze goesting opwekken. Daarnaast moet ze een tipje van de sluier oplichten over de inhoud en wie er in speelt. Maar met posters kan ook gelachen worden, dat bewezen de mensen van The Shiznit, die een aantal titels en ondertitels bedachten die meteen de waarheid onthullen achter heel wat filmprojecten. Hilarisch! Ik heb er zelf nog twee posters aan toegevoegd.

Knappe pictogram posters

Hier zijn vierentwintig prachtige pictogram-posters, waar je meteen de titel van kunt raden. De titels is uiteindelijk een beetje overbodig, maar op deze manier zou je ze echt wel als alternatief kunnen gebruiken voor de officiële poster. De afbeeldingen komen van Viktor Hertz, een freelance grafisch ontwerper en fotograaf uit Uppsala in Zweden.

En hier is nog een setje Stanley Kubrick films. Die kerel bewijst hiermee dat hij niet enkel een grafisch talent is, maar tevens een grote filmliefhebber.

Largo Winch 2 vs Casino Royale

Toen ik me gisteren naar het werk begaf (te voet, gezien MIVB vandaag volledig stil lag naar aanleiding van het zoveelste geweldfeit in één van de stations) kreeg ik de nieuwe poster van Largo Winch 2 (2011) te zien in het straatbeeld. Ik moest wel goed kijken, want mijn eerste indruk was dat het om een nieuwe poster zou gaan van de nieuwe James Bond film (ook al was dit véél te vroeg). Maar de gelijkenissen tussen deze poster en die van Casino Royale (2006) zijn toch wel treffend. Ik laat jullie zelf oordelen.

Korte inhoud : Largo Winch (Tomer Sisley), die na de dood van z’n adoptievader aan het hoofd van de Groep 'W' kwam te staan, besluit om het bedrijf te verkopen en een ambitieuze humanitaire stichting op te richten. Maar op de dag dat er getekend moet worden, wordt Largo Winch door een mysterieuze getuige beschuldigd van misdaden tegen de menselijkheid. Largo zal z’n onschuld moeten bewijzen door in z’n verleden te graven, diep in het hart van de Birmese jungle.

De regie van de film is wederom in handen van Jerome Salle, die voor deze prent actrice Sharon Stone heeft kunnen strikken. De actrice heeft waarschijnlijk ook een grote hap in het productiebudget genomen. Laten we hopen dat ze nog over voldoende charisma beschikt om voldoende volk naar de bioscoop te lokken, want ik loop zelf niet meteen warm van deze prent, evenmin van de vorige film.
