Terwijl James Bond nog steeds probeert uit te zoeken hoe hij moet overleven in de 21e eeuw, zien we Jason Bourne, als nieuwe geheim agent, er lustig op los schieten. De Bourne films zijn stevige actie-thrillers en binnenkort mogen we ons verwachten aan een derde luik: The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), naar de titel van het boek van Robert Ludlum. MovieHoleSchrijft het volgende:
“We’ll probably do that in about a year and a half,” zegt Matt Damon. “We’re all signed on in principle, in the sense that we’ve all agreed that we want to do it, but we’re not going to do it unless we have a great script. It’s ours to lose at the minute, and if we do make a third one, we want to make it as good as the first two. And if we can’t do that, then we’re going to have to let it drop.”
Het personage in het boek, Carlos the Jackal, was uit de eerste film gehaald, en Damon zegt dat hij ook niet in deze filmversie zal zitten. “Yeah, all that stuff with Carlos being actually caught. It’s kind of a Cold War story. We’re essentially retaining the title, so it’s going to be called The Bourne Ultimatum. But we don’t know at this point what the hell that means! So if you have any ideas for a script, then please…”
Dit is toch wel grappig, in die zin dat ze eigenlijk nog helemaal niet weten waar deze film naar toe zal gaan. Maar Damon staat wel ingeschreven, ook al zal de film op niets trekken. Neemt hj dan een risico? Ik denk van niet. Integendeel, het is zijn eerste trilogie en dat is ook een ereteken bij de Hollywood acteurs. Trouwens zijn Bourne scenarist Tony Gilroy en Doug Liman, regisseur van Mr. And Mrs. Smith en The Bourne Identity, nog altijd van de partij. Maar of deze laatste de regie zal doen of executive producer zijn blijft nog de vraag.
